Diddy is in the news. But is it OK to make jokes about him?
Why an expert says jokes about Diddy aren’t funny
Even though Diddy hasn’t been proven guilty of a crime, as Maria explained, her “weird” feeling about Diddy jokes happened because it’s a serious topic.
JJ Wright, a professor of sociology and gender studies at MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta, said that jokes about Diddy “aren’t funny.”
She said jokes about sexual violence hurt people who have experienced it themselves.
It also makes it harder for people who are trying to make society less sexist.
Instead, Wright said we should promote things that involve respecting one another, instead of jokes that focus on hurting victims.
What to do if these jokes make you uncomfortable
Wright shared tips on what to do if jokes about Diddy make you feel sad or uncomfortable.
