Brain injuries often go unrecognized among domestic violence victims
Nearly a quarter of women experience physical abuse from partners, and up to 90% of those women have had at least one concussion. Most don’t get screened or diagnosed.
“These individuals get hit, and then they get hit again, and their symptoms get worse and they have the potential for swelling of the brain, bleeding of the brain,” Cárdenas said. “They never have an opportunity to recover, and they are more likely to have permanent deficits as a result of these repeated head injuries.” Link to full story here.
